A chap called Versepelles reportedly spent over 250 hours designing and building a Minecraft Adventure map called Search for the Skyheart. D and I have JUST found and stolen the Skyheart to complete this challenging and thoroughly enjoyable map.
The map presented a few good challenges and thankfully no parkour. Chests are nicely scattered with progressively more rewarding loot. The puzzles are pitched perfectly; not obvious but not fiendishly hard either.
Thank you Versepelles and well done!
After a couple of weeks in review with Apple they have now given Zuulite Miner their approval and the latest version is now available for download via their App Store.
This version brings iOS 8 compatibility as well as a graphical over-haul. A couple of things have been removed… there is no portrait view (for now) and the reset button is gone (temporarily).
I have had an idea for another game, which I have started working on and is going very well. If you have any ideas for the development of Zuulite Miner I would be pleased to hear them!
The web player build of Zuulite Miner will be updated shortly and it will also be published for Android just as soon as I figure out how!
Zuulite Miner has been re-written using Unity v4.6. The Asteroid is now a 3D object in a 3D planetary system. You can pan and zoom in orbit around the Asteroid to take a look around while you mine.
The achievement and upgrade lists have had a face lift and you can now click on each to learn how the achievement was gained or what the upgrade is actually doing.
Portrait view and the reset button have both been temporarily removed from the game. They will both be back in future versions.
Zuulite Miner is not a money making project but, more to learn how it is done, it is possible to earn free upgrades and free tools by watching Unity Ads. I hope this is unobtrusive and that you can resist the urge to take shortcuts!!
I look forward to reading your feedback in the Forums and app reviews. Christmas is just around the corner and I am going to try very hard to publish to the Android store too!
I knew Unity were working on a new UI system to be released with Unity version 4.6 when I was first working on Zuulite Miner. I thought it would have been a nice-to-have but I managed to do most of the things I needed with 2D Sprites, 2D Box Colliders and a little ingenuity. I was pretty pleased with version 0.106 of Zuulite Miner on iOS until iOS 8 was released and broke it!
Anyway, now I have made the effort to look into it the new UI stuff is pretty tasty. Last time I worked on Zuulite Miner I was trying to make a scrolling panel and having the overflow of that panel clipped out of view. Very tricky without using two cameras, which causes its own problems.
So I started Zuulite Miner from a new blank project. Laid out the UI again using the new system in an afternoon and had the scroll panel working without writing a single line of code in just a few hours. Then I copied across all the game logic classes that I wanted to keep from version 0.106 and ripped out anything that interacted with the UI. Then updated the necessary classes to make use of the new IPointerClick interface and was right back to where I left off with the exception that the game’s UI looked great and also scaled itself for the different aspect ratios of different mobile devices… brilliant!
Oh, I did also take the opportunity to upgrade to the latest beta of TextMeshPro. This was necessary to make it work with Unity’s new RectTransform object but also brought a couple of other benefits. Signed Distance Field fonts look amazing!
Elite: Dangerous version 1.0 was officially released today. The game looks amazing. Really wish they had released the Mac version at the same time. I think I will wait until that is available to take a peek into their Universe.

So… erm… Minecraft!!!
I had absolutely no desire to play Minecraft. I had heard of it. I was aware of it but nothing about it appealed to me. My boy however asked us to get him a copy of Minecraft every single day. Eventually I relented and purchased a login for Minecraft. Within 24 hours I had purchased a further 2 logins so that the three of us could all play together.
Having defeated the Ender Dragon on our own personal house server, made a faction and an awesome base on Climax Craft‘s public survival server and lost many, many rounds of hunger games on The Emerald Isle. I have finally decided that I should probably stop playing Minecraft and take a quick look around me to see all the things that I have neglected to attend to in “Real Life”.
Sorry everyone but Zuulite Miner v0.106 is not compatible with iOS version 8.
Version 0.108 will be compiled using Unity 4.5.4 which fixes the problem with display rotation upon app initialisation under iOS 8. As soon as this update hits the App Store the game will work again!
Again apologies for the problems.
Thank you to the team at Apple who have reviewed the latest binary for Zuulite Miner and have approved it for release on the App Store.
I am really pleased with this version. Check out the version history to see what has been happening.
I am currently working on v0.108 which has some great fixes and new features. I keep coming up with a few awesome ideas for the game. I will publish a roadmap for the game soon so that I can share my ideas with you.
Thanks for your support
Ta ta for now.
It feels like it has been ages but Apple are now reviewing the next release version of the game. I have been working on the next-next release and have a rudimentary portrait view layout working. Have squashed a few little bugs, added a few little visual queues to the upgrade store and also improved the information on the Info Window.
The layout of the stats panel is still a little iffy and sometimes the achievements overlap the upgrades. I am working on this and when I am happy with it it will be called v0.108 and I will upload it to the App Store and Website and I also want to look at testing it on Android.
But for now, watch this space for Apple to finish reviewing After Ice: Zuulite Miner.
First two days of downloads for Zuulite Miner on the App Store
Zuulite Miner has been on the App Store for 2 days and has been downloaded an astonishing 398 times!!! Thank you to all those who have taken the time to download and install my little game. Thank you, thank you.
A huge apology to all those who have downloaded the App and got stuck due to the crash after trying to buy the first Laser or Explosive upgrade. This bug is fixed in version 0.106 (live on the web player) which was submitted to Apple a few days ago and is awaiting their approval to be released to you all as an update.
Thanks and sorry
